The majority of consumers currently listening to immersive music are hearing the lossy format Dolby Digital Plus with Joint Object Coding (DD+JOC), which has the advantage of backwards compatibility. A newer, non-backwards compatible codec referred to as Dolby Audio Coding Level 4 (AC-4 L4) has become available for commercial deployment and is designed with many more features, including lower bitrate, and higher fidelity than DD+JOC.This event will feature a double-blind listening test that puts reference PCM 7.1.4 up against DD+JOC and AC-4 L4 on a high-quality professional playback system.
