Intro to Singkil: A Beginner Dance Workshop with Manilatown Ancestral

Manilatown Academy invites you to a Manilatown Ancestral hands-on beginners workshop on pre-colonial Philippine arts and culture at the International Hotel Manilatown Center!

Join us for an unforgettable introduction to Singkil, the iconic pre-colonial dance of the Maranao people from Mindanao. Traditionally performed with bamboo poles, fans, and regal grace, Singkil tells the story of a journey through adversity, rhythm, and perseverance.

This workshop is ideal for beginners — no prior dance experience is needed. You'll learn the foundational steps, cultural context, and elegance of this storied tradition.

Led by the Manilatown Ancestral Ensemble, a collective dedicated to preserving Indigenous Philippine music and dance, this workshop is part of an ongoing series at the International Hotel Manilatown Center.
