IIS Cine Club - Una giornata particolare by Ettore Scola

Join us for an Italian cinema evening at our next Cine Club meeting on Friday, November 21st!
We’ll be screening Una giornata particolare by Ettore Scola, the 1977 masterpiece starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni.

Set in Rome on May 6, 1938, the day Hitler visited Mussolini, the film follows Antonietta, a weary housewife, and Gabriele, her marginalized neighbor, as they form an unexpected bond while the rest of the city celebrates in the streets. Against the backdrop of fascist spectacle, their intimate encounter highlights themes of repression, loneliness, solidarity, and the quiet resilience of the human spirit.

Come for a profound cinematic journey into a single “special day” that reveals the personal costs of history and ideology, enriched by a discussion with teacher Barbara designed to deepen your understanding of the film, its cultural references, and the Italy of that time.

The movie will be screened in Italian with English subtitles, making it accessible for all levels of language proficiency.
