# Event Details - **Event Name**: Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 02:00 pm – Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 03:30 pm (-07:00) - **Event Description**: FREE concert celebrating Afro Filipinx music roots and traditions only at Yerba Buena Gardens FestivalAbout this EventFew artists have appeared at the Festival more frequently than flutist, percussionist and arranger John Calloway. Whether he’s leading his own band, performing in the sextet of longtime creative partner John Santos, or directing the Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco, Calloway is a Bay Area icon who’s been at the center of the San Francisco Latin jazz scene for some five decades. But his latest and most personal project yet, the Afro-Filipino Jazz Project, takes his music in a new direction. Founded in 2022 as a creative, interactive space, the Project is intended to bring together Afro Filipinx, African American and Filipino American musicians to explore a broad range of musical styles, with a particular emphasis on jazz idioms, African American roots and traditional and folkloric Filipino music. It’s one component of the larger Afro-Filipino Project, a platform dedicated to highlighting and celebrating, individually and collectively, the art practices and artists of the African American and Filipino American communities whose contributions have profoundly shaped our nation's artistic narrative. For this performance the AFJP features bass star Marcus Shelby, inveterately grooving drummer Deszon Claiborne, Latin jazz piano specialist Murray Low, saxophonist TJ Milan, Conrad Benedicto on kulintang, vocalist and dancer Ting Alvarez and guest vocalist Anna Maria Flechero.Participating ArtistsDirector: John CallowayDrums: Deszon ClaiborneBass: Marcus Shelby and Chris TrinidadPiano: Murray LowGuitar: Joshua IcbanViolin: Sam BrownSax: TJ MilanPercussion: Rebecca RodriguezPercussion: Jaeden BaclayKulintang: Conrad BenedictoKulintang: Manny DragonVocals: Ting AlvarezVocals: JoJo ThompsonVocals: Lina LunaGuest Vocalist: Anna Maria FlecheroDancers: Marcella Pabros Clark, Daniel GiraySpoken word: Umali HorneSupported in party by Yerba Buena Partnershiphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOyhD6exR6Ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSSqDuLuipA - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/san-francisco/afro-filipino-jazz-project-at-ybg-festival/100001986364182742 - **Event Categories**: music, entertainment, festivals, art, concerts, performances, live-music - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 0 - **Event Highlights**: - Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes - Location: Yerba Buena Gardens - Languages: English ## Ticket Details - **Ticket Price Range**: min: 0, max: 20, currency: USD ## Event venue details - **city**: San Francisco - **state**: CA - **country**: United States - **location**: Yerba Buena Gardens - **lat**: 37.7849884 - **long**: -122.4023514 - **full address**: Yerba Buena Gardens, 750 Howard Street, San Francisco, United States ## Event gallery - **Alt text**: Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival - **Image URL**: https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events10/banners/18453fde1591bff464b976a4b8d590d213aac11492a8326b7b2cd2733adc3bc1-rimg-w1200-h630-dc151413-gmir.jpg?v=1775453432 ## FAQs - **Q**: When and where is Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival being held? - **A:** Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival takes place on Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 02:00 pm to Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 03:30 pm at Yerba Buena Gardens, 750 Howard Street, San Francisco, United States. - **Q**: Who is organizing Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival? - **A:** Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival is organized by Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. - **Q**: Who is this event for?
