She earned her B.A. in Philosophy at Brandeis University and spent two years in immersive Jewish text study at the Hadar Institute. She was ordained as a Reform Rabbi from Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in 2020 and served as an associate rabbi at Temple Sholom of Chicago until joining Congregation Emanu-El of San Francisco in 2024.Rena is the co-founder of Modern Ritual, an online resource that educates tens of thousands of people on how to weave relevant, beautiful Jewish rituals into their day to day lives. In rabbinical school, she interned at Central Synagogue in Manhattan and Westchester Reform Temple. Rena has served on the board of Arise Chicago, which partners with workers and faith communities to fight workplace injustice.
