🌅 Sunset Kayak with Bioluminescence Potential – Mission Bay
Bioluminescence season is here in San Diego! We’ve been spotting glowing waters on recent tours. While nature is unpredictable and the glow can never be guaranteed, when it appears it’s truly unforgettable.
On this guided 2.5-hour kayak tour, you’ll:
Launch from Vacation Isle at 6:00 PM to catch the 6:39 PM sunset.
Paddle into the calm waters of Mission Bay under the new moon.
Watch for glowing plankton lighting up around your paddle.
Relax under the stars and enjoy the peaceful nighttime bay.
Why kayak for bioluminescence?
From shore, you might catch a glimpse of glowing waves. From a kayak, you get to create the glow yourself by dipping your paddle or swirling your hands in the water. It’s an interactive, magical experience.
Science meets wonder

🧥 What to Wear
Expect to get a little wet — you’ll be sitting in about an inch of water. Open-top kayaks are designed this way.
Swimwear or quick-dry clothing recommended
A light long-sleeve layer (think windbreaker) if you get cold
Sandals or water shoes are helpful
