Using mostly seated and reclined poses—supported by props and held passively for several minutes—Yin Yoga targets the deeper layers of connective tissue such as fascia, ligaments, and joints.These long, supported holds create a gentle, beneficial stress that stretches or compresses the tissues in a safe, mindful way. Students are encouraged to honor their body’s unique needs, explore variations, and notice the subtle sensations that arise over time. The quiet stillness of Yin offers a soothing balance to more active “yang” practices and prepares the body for deeper states of rest.
