Boundaries: An Abstract Exploration by Stephen Williams
Boundaries is an abstract art exhibition by Stephen Williams, founder of The Hyangle. This thought provoking series challenges common perceptions of boundaries, emphasizing that they are not barriers to connection but the foundation of healthy relationships. Through bold, layered, and expressive abstract works, Stephen conveys the importance of setting and maintaining personal boundaries as an essential aspect of self respect and mental well being. Each piece reflects the dynamic process of honoring oneself while fostering meaningful connections with others. By intertwining art and mental health, this exhibition inspires viewers to redefine boundaries as pathways to deeper, healthier relationships.
Info: As part of this immersive experience, entry into the gallery will be guided by a consent based interaction with our security team. Before crossing the threshold into the exhibition, each guest will be asked to verbally acknowledge their presence, intention, and respect for the space. In response, the security guard will offer explicit consent for entry transforming a routine gesture into a symbolic moment of boundary recognition.
This practice aligns with the core message of The Hyangle’s Boundaries series: that boundaries are not walls to keep others out, but conscious agreements that shape how we connect. Just as each artwork explores the space between limitation and liberation, this act invites guests to pause, reflect, and enter with awareness.
By setting the tone for intentional engagement, the gallery becomes more than a place it becomes a shared space of respect, presence, and mutual understanding.
Info: This 5–10 minute improvised dance performance by Desire Jones brings The Hyangle’s abstract art to life through spontaneous movement and emotional expression. Just like the layered brushstrokes of Stephen Williams’ artwork, Desire’s routine is guided by intuition rather than choreography. Allowing each step, gesture, and pause to emerge in the moment.
A taped outline on the ground marks the performance space, symbolizing the theme of boundaries. These lines define the dancer’s physical limits while also representing the emotional and psychological boundaries we set in our lives. As Desire moves within and up against these borders, the performance becomes a visual meditation on self-awareness, freedom, and inner transformation.
This piece invites the audience to witness what it means to move with purpose, presence, and permission—to create within limits, and to find liberation in the process.
Info: In this 15-minute spoken word performance, Anissa uses powerful language, rhythm, and vulnerability to explore the themes of self-expression and boundaries. Just as The Hyangle’s abstract artwork reveals truth through texture and imperfection, Anissa’s words carve space for honesty, healing, and reflection.
The taped outline on the ground frames the stage not just as a performance area, but as a metaphor for boundaries. It represents the emotional lines we draw to protect our peace, define our identity, and reclaim our voice. Within this space, Anissa delivers a dynamic, personal narrative that challenges silence and celebrates the strength it takes to speak up and stand tall.
This performance is not only heard but felt echoing the core message of The Hyangle: Healing from a Higher Angle. Through the art of spoken word, Anissa transforms boundaries from limitations into declarations of self-worth and empowerment.
Info: This 10-minute Shibari performance by Jazmin is a bold and intimate expression of boundaries, consent, and vulnerability. Rooted in the Japanese art of rope bondage, this performance explores the tension between restriction and release. Echoing the layered complexity of The Hyangle’s abstract work.
A taped outline on the ground marks the designated performance space, symbolizing the physical and emotional boundaries present in both the practice of Shibari and the act of artistic creation. Within this defined space, Jazmin weaves intention into every knot and movement, highlighting the beauty that emerges when limits are acknowledged and respected.
This performance is not about control... it’s about trust, surrender, and the sacred act of creating safe space. Just like the artwork of The Hyangle, it invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with boundaries.. not as barriers, but as containers for transformation, safety, and expression.
