Drawing from their work in aging services and expressive arts programming, they will highlight how music, storytelling, drama, and other creative approaches can foster connection, engagement, and emotional expression. Their presentation will explore how arts-based programming can enhance quality of life, reduce isolation, and create meaningful opportunities for older adults to share their experiences and remain actively engaged in their communities.Claire Day - Alzheimer's Association – Claire has been working for the Alzheimer's Association since 2001 in various roles including special events, program coordination, early stage and support group expansion until managing the Chapter's program and services team. In January 2017, she transferred to the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter to serve as their Chief Program Officer.Prior to joining the Alzheimer's Association, I worked in the long term care field providing social service needs to residents. I have worked on physical and chemical restraint reduction teams throughout Pennsylvania to improve the quality of life of those living in residential settings.Claire will be speaking on Advancing the Science: The Latest in Alzheimer's and Dementia Research - Tremendous gains have been made in the understanding of the science and basic biology underlying Alzheimer's and other dementias. These advances are leading to great strides in strategies for prevention, detection, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions.Freddy Silva - Rock Steady Boxing - Before coming to Rock Steady Boxing, Freddy trained under and is still the assistant trainer for former contender and world ranked professional boxer, Eddie Croft. Freddy also credits professional Muay Thai fighter, Paul “Spooner” Brown for schooling him in Pad work and mitt work. “I am lucky enough to have been mentored by one of the best trainers (Eddie Croft) in the state.”Besides his role as a licenced professional, coach and trainer, Freddy is a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor. He worked as a youth counselor at the San Mateo County Juvenile Hall as well as Asian American Recovery Services (AARS). “Being from the area (Bay Area) as a Latino male from a single parent home, I feel it’s my duty to try and give back if I can.” Rock Steady has been another way for me continue that way of life.
