Thenationwide protests, collectively one of the largestmobilizations in U.S. history, killed the bill in theSenate.Ever since 2006, the May Day marches forworkers' rights and immigration reform havebecome a revived tradition in this country.Although May 1 was chosen because immigrantcommunities remember the celebrations ofInternational Workers' Day on this date in theircountries of origin, May First is not new to theUnited States.
