- **Event Description**: This Vet endorsed Canine First Aid Course has been designed to give dog owners and those professionally involved in the canine industry the confidence and knowledge to act decisively when faced with a seriously ill or injured animal. We believe that anyone who is involved with dogs should have a working knowledge of how best to act in an emergency, as no ambulance will be available to provide the vital on scene care which has such a huge influence on survival. Lack of human knowledge of what to do is the reason 80% of seriously injured dogs will die before reaching veterinary care. It is for this reason the The South Scotland Mountain Rescue Dog Association has chosen this course for their dog handlers.

This 6-hour session combines practical and technical input and is delivered by qualified and experienced instructors. On completion you will attain not only a nationally recognised level 2 qualification in canine first aid, but will also receive ongoing support in the form of weekly instructional videos. The course also comes with an A4 wall certificate and four hours Continuous Personal Development (CPD)

• Skeletal system
Common Illness Management
• Canine CPR
• Canine Recovery Position
• Bloat
• Poisoning
• Pyometra
• Temperature related illness
• Seizures
• Blue Green Algae
• Alabama Foot Rot
Management of Traumatic Injuries
• Clearing a choke
• Soft tissue injuries and bandaging (including paws, eyes and ears)
• Impaled injuries
• Recognising and dealing with shock
• Broken bones and splinting
• Spinal injuries (moving a spinal injured dog)
This course is for human students only, please leave dogs at home.

This course does not set out to replace the Vet but rather has been designed to instil in the student the confidence and knowledge to recognise major illness and injury and act appropriately to enhance the likelihood of survival.
This one day course costs £65.00 person. Places on this course are limited so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
