The Hospital of St Nicholas in Salisbury is one of the ancient almshouses of England. Situated just south of Salisbury's Cathedral Close, adjacent to the Old Harnham or Ayleswade Bridge, The Hospital of St. Nicholas, is a flourishing and vibrant Christian community of men and women called to live in fellowship with one another.

There are 24 ground and first-floor flats in four blocks, providing housing in a Christian community. Each flat offers good-sized self-contained accommodation for single people, with some properties suitable for couples.

For many people, our Hospital is forever associated with Anthony Trollope's Barchester, as the original of the instituition so vividly described in The Warden. While we are glad to acknowledge our fictional fosterchild, St. Nicholas today is so much more than a footnote in literary history or a picturesque part of Salisbury's civic heritage. As an almshouse with a rich and varied tradition of service since its founding in the early 13th century for 'the reception, care and maintenance of Christ's poor, sick and infirm', we continue the tradition here of hospitality (hence "hospital") and daily worship in our medieval chapel beside the River Avon.
