Jean's daughter Manon has grown up in to a beautiful and free-spirited young shepherdess on her father's Provence farm. But when she learns the tragic truth about her father's demise, Manon plots her revenge on the dim-witted Ugolin and the scheming Le Papet.

The film stars Daniel Auteuil and Yves Montand reprising their roles from the first film, and Emmanuelle Béart as the titular protagonist. Béart won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
