Andy Hague (trumpet/flugelhorn) is a central figure in Bristol’s vibrant jazz scene, known both as a performer and as organiser of weekly jazz venue The Be-Bop Club. Besides his jazz activities he has played on albums by Portishead and for theatre, tv and film productions. His quintet has appeared at many major jazz festivals including Cheltenham and Cambridge, Italy’s Rossini Festival and at Ronnie Scott’s in 2022 and 2023. They have recorded several national radio broadcasts and CDs. Andy is also well known as a jazz educator, having taught under the banner of Bristol Jazz Workshops for over two decades and tutored for jazz summer schools/ residential weekends. Ben Waghorn (tenor sax) has worked in London’s West End and on many pop, TV and film recordings. He has been involved in a range of projects with Keith Tippett, the BBC singers, the BBC Big Band, Geoff Eales, Dave Stapleton and the London Concert Orchestra. Jim Blomfield (piano) has been a vital part of Bristol’s jazz scene for many years and has accompanied many of the UK’s best known players. He has released two trio CDs of his own compositions. “Jim Blomfield is the best British pianist you've never heard of and is an absolute marvel” – Independent on Sunday. Henrik Jensen (double bass) has toured the world from Tokyo to Moscow with various modern jazz projects and also as part of the band for close harmony group The Puppini Sisters. Henrik has released two CDs as band leader with his quartet Followed By Thirteen. Ryan Thrupp (drums) graduated with a First from the Royal Welsh College jazz degree course a few years back and besides his jazz activities plays with funky festival favourites Cut Capers. He appeared on live BBC TV from Glastonbury 2023 with afro-beat balafon player N’famady Kouyaté. “it's the variety of the musical structures deployed, as well as the sheer spirit and fire in these performances that makes this a significant milestone for Hague and his chums” – Peter Vacher, four star review in Jazzwise March 2019.
