Investigate The Red Lion offers audiences a rare opportunity to spend a day inside the creative life of a production. Each of the five productions David has directed at the Kings Arms Theatre has had its own Investigate Day. They take place in the intimate surroundings of the theatre itself—in the very room where the play has been rehearsed and will be performed. No previous knowledge of the play is necessary. You can ask questions, join the conversation—or simply watch and listen. 10.30am–1.00pm Inside the rehearsal room David and the actors will demonstrate some of the rehearsal techniques used in creating the production and share the discoveries they have made while investigating Patrick Marber’s extraordinary play. What lies beneath the words? What do these three men want from one another? And what might The Red Lion have to say to us now—not only about football, but about loyalty, ambition, belonging, betrayal and the struggle for something sacred in a world increasingly ruled by money? Throughout the morning, audience members will be free to ask questions and contribute their own thoughts. Guest contributors may also bring their particular knowledge and perspective to the investigation. 1.00–2.00pm Lunch Lunch will be provided for all ticket holders!  2.00–4.00pm Performance of The Red Lion The audience returns to watch a matinee performance of the production. These performances often acquire a very special atmosphere. A bond has already been created between the actors and the audience—and the experience of the play can be deepened and enriched by everything uncovered during the morning. 4.15pm Meet the company After the performance, David will facilitate an informal discussion with the actors. Audience members will have the opportunity to share their responses, ask questions and continue the investigation of the play they have just experienced. One play. Three men.
