- **Event Description**: Under the musical direction of MIKE HALL Hootin Annies present and afternoon of swing energy as they play a selection of Ellington classics as part of the Sale Festival. A programme ranging from standards to several of Ellington's interpretations of classical music, and his own less frequently heard original compositions promises an afternoon of interest and entertainment.

Mike is an internationally recognised saxophonist and educator. He began his musical career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which led to work with the late composer/pianist Michael Garrick with whom he toured Malaysia and made several CD recordings and Radio 3 broadcasts.

He played with the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra (including performances at Ronnie Scott’s Club), with Andy Scott’s Sax Assault, and with his own jazz octet, Boplicity. Mike also freelanced with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Hallé Orchestras. He continues to run jazz summer schools as well as local workshops.

Mike was Co-ordinator of Jazz Studies and directed the RNCM Big Band for 20 years, and has performed alongside guest artists such as Bob Mintzer, Chris Potter, John Taylor, Gwilym Simcock, Clare Teal and John Dankworth.
