# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Wita Tanka Island SLOW WALK in Fort Snelling
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 13 Jun, 2026 at 10:00 am
- **Event Description**: My personal favorite walk: along the exterior of Wita Tanka (also known as Pike Island) in Fort Snelling! This is a 3-4 mile walk under the trees along a smooth, unpaved path, and features BOTH the Minnesota AND Mississippi Rivers.

Park at the parking lot near the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center, located 2 miles inside of Fort Snelling State Park and look for the person with the lilac handkerchief tied to a walking stick to gather.

We'll start the walk at 10:15 a.m. and will be maintaining a slow, steady pace for approximately 3-4 miles.

Some things to know:

*There IS a state park entry fee for Fort Snelling State Park. You can, however, "check out" an entry from your local library to bypass this! Learn more here: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/minnesota-state-parks-library-program.html

*Plan on meeting at the parking lot - look for the lilac handkerchief tied to my walking stick so we can gather in a group.

*Dress appropriately for the weather and your comfort.

*Pets are welcome if allowed at the location, as long as they remain on a leash or in a stroller. The pet owner is responsible for poop clean-up and disposal. Please ask before allowing your pet to greet others - some folks might not be comfortable with new pets.
