Join us for a powerful and timely panel discussion on the intersection of music and social justice, both past and present.
This panel explores the powerful role of music in the civil rights movement and its deep connections to Rondo. Together, we’ll consider how protest music has animated and sustained social justice movements in the Twin Cities and the Midwest. Do the iconic freedom songs—such as We Shall Overcome—still resonate with today’s generations of protesters? Is there still power in freedom and protest songs, or have we moved beyond them? And what are the civil rights songs of today—works like Childish Gambino’s This Is America or Jon Batiste’s Freedom?
This discussion will be a thought-provoking exploration of how music continues to be a powerful tool for change.
