- **Event Description**: Calling explorers of all ages! You're invited to experience Cumberland Island as never before with OHM naturalists Stephanie Chewning and Eric Swanson. For this family-friendly trip, we’ll take the ferry over to Cumberland Island National Seashore for a day full of adventure. We’ll check out the Dungeness ruins (home to the famed Carnegie family), before exploring the maritime forest, salt marsh, and barrier island beach. You’ll have time to dig your toes in the sand along the longest stretch of undeveloped beach in Georgia. There’s plenty of wildlife to discover, and you’ll learn about about summer nesting seasons for amazing animals like loggerhead sea turtles, shorebirds, and more!

Explorers should be prepared for a full day’s walk in outdoor conditions (about 5 miles in all, including a stretch of soft sand), but we’ll be sure to fit in plenty of water and snack breaks to keep hikers of every age happy.
