Meet-up is at 10 AM, and we’ll carpool from there since a four‑wheel‑drive vehicle is needed to reach the trailhead.

The hike isn’t long, but it does feature a few boulders that require some light scrambling. My dog Sophie — yes, that Sophie, the canyon’s namesake and self-appointed queen of the area — could bounce up all of them like she was powered by springs. Smaller dogs may need a gentle “elevator ride” in a couple of spots. Consider it bonding.

Along the way, keep an eye out for some surprisingly cool shell fossils and a neat little outcropping of selenite. It’s like nature sprinkled in some bonus collectibles just to keep things interesting.

After our heroic journey through a canyon named after a dog, we’ll head back to The Tank for lunch and bragging rights.
