Au cours d’une ère tyrannique qui méprise les œuvres de l’esprit et exalte le productivisme, Hanta, un bon bougre humaniste, exerce la profession de presseur dans une usine de recyclage de papiers : sa tâche consiste à détruire les livres mis au pilon. Mais ce héros ordinaire résiste à sa manière en lisant, sauvant et distribuant sous le manteau quelques impérissables chefs-d’œuvre de la littérature. 
Avec cette libre adaptation du roman de Bohumil Hrabal, la metteuse en scène Marjorie Currenti signe un huis clos poétique et sensoriel, dans lequel l’accumulation de mots, de souvenirs et de papiers devient une matière vivante. L'acteur Fabrice Lartin habite à lui seul cette parabole anti-totalitaire qui explore la force salvatrice de la pensée et de la littérature. Entre théâtre masqué, marionnettes et création sonore, ce spectacle, telle une ode à la liberté, offre une plongée dans les méandres d’un esprit en lutte, qui tente de résister au temps et à l’oubli.
