About the Play: 
Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize–winning masterpiece The Skin of Our Teeth is an epic, time-traveling comedy about the end of the world — and the people who somehow keep going. The story follows the Antrobus family of Excelsior, New Jersey as they survive the Ice Age, the Great Flood, and even war, reinventing themselves (and humanity) again and again.
Part absurdist satire, part heartfelt survival story, The Skin of Our Teeth celebrates the resilience, foolishness, and hope of humankind — with help from dinosaurs, mammoths, fortune tellers, and a few confused stagehands along the way.

This production features a large, dynamic ensemble cast, offering rich roles for performers ages 13 - 301. Every actor is part of the whirlwind — from playing townspeople and refugees to creatures, prophets, and the ever-present “backstage” world of the play itself. It’s a true ensemble piece where every voice matters and every moment contributes to the story’s wild, joyful chaos.


CASTING NOTES: The Skin of Our Teeth is a highly physical, fast-paced play running approximately 2.5 hours. The production will require an intensive rehearsal process with clear deadlines for line memorization and scene work. Actors should carefully consider their availability from December-March of 2026 and be prepared to commit fully to the schedule and the ensemble’s shared goals. 

We encourage actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, body types, and abilities to audition. Wilder’s play thrives on bold, inventive interpretations, and the members of the Antrobus family do not need to share a physical resemblance to one another. Our goal is to assemble an ensemble that reflects the diversity and imagination of the world today.
