- **Event Description**: With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved father Yang Thao, age 59, passed away on March 5, 2025. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor touched everyone he met, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Born on July 5, 1965, in Laos and migrated to the United States in 1990. Yang and his spouse lived in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and a few years later, they settle in Minneapolis, MN. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Shane Thao, Kabao Thao, Pat Thao, Patricia Thao, and Kaonou Thao.

Yang worked countless of jobs providing for his family. With little money he made, he never forgets to spend time with his children. He took them to the park, swimming, fishing, and hunting. Yang loves outdoor activities and that beautiful outgoing trait has passed down to his children.

(Son) Shane is happily married with three children, and soon, another little one will join their family. Shane introduced his children to the joys of fishing, just like his father Yang taught him. During fishing and hunting season, Shane always makes a point to invite his father Yang, along. The two of them share more than just a love for the outdoors, their bond is built on years of mutual respect, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Together, they enjoy camping under the stars, surrounded by the peacefulness of nature, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

(Daughter) Kabao is inspired by the carefree spirit and sharp intellect like her father Yang. Kabao earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, becoming a Realtor to serve her community and a Software Developer with a strong, thoughtful mind. Following his love for fitness, she has completed three marathons and is now preparing for her fourth, honoring his passion for staying active through soccer, and carrying forward his legacy of perseverance and dedication.

(Daughter) Pat has always had a deep passion for photography and videography, capturing the beauty of the world through her lens. She finds inspiration in her father Yang’s story, particularly in the memories he shared of his time in the refugee camp in Laos. Back then, Yang always carried a film camera with him, documenting moments with friends and special events, preserving memories that meant so much. For Pat, following in her father’s footsteps is more than just a hobby, it’s a way to honor his legacy.

(Daughter) Patricia appreciate the simple joys in life. Her father Yang always take them local parks, fishing, and swimming. Those outings were more than just activities, they were most cherished memories. Despite the challenges, Patricia looks back on those days with gratitude. Her father Yang’s dedication to filling her childhood with outdoor adventures not only gave her memories she still holds dear today but inspire Patricia to seek out new experiences and pursue her dreams with the same enthusiasm and appreciation for the world around her. 

(Daughter) Kaonou brought her son, AJ to spend time with her father Yang, knowing that their time together was precious. AJ may have been too young to fully understand the depth of the moment, but Kaonou felt a deep sense of peace knowing that her son had the chance to experience the love and warmth from Grandpa Yang had always carried.

All of Yang’s children and grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless joy. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, whether it was gathering around the dinner table, sharing stories, and looking through photo albums.

A celebration of Yang Thao’s life will take place on Saturday, April 19 at 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at Koob Moo Funeral Chapel, 1235 Arcade St, St Paul, MN 55106. An interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, 803 Carpenter Ave W Roseville, MN 55113.
