Directed by Todd Haynes and adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s groundbreaking novel The Price of Salt, Carol is a luminous and deeply moving love story set in 1950s New York.

When Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), a young department store clerk and aspiring photographer, meets the elegant and enigmatic Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett), an unexpected connection sparks between them. What begins as a chance encounter grows into a relationship that defies the rigid social expectations of the time. As Carol navigates a dissolving marriage and the threat of losing custody of her daughter, both women must confront the cost — and the courage — of living truthfully.

Beautifully shot and exquisitely performed, Carol is a story of longing, restraint, and emotional bravery. It remains one of the most celebrated LGBTQ+ films of the 21st century, honoring the resilience of love in the face of societal constraint.

The Hamptons Pride Film Series takes place the last Sunday of every month at 4pm at Bay Street Theater, creating space for shared storytelling and community reflection through film.
