They supply milk to Meyenberg, the largest producer of goat milk in the United States. Nearly a year later, animal rescuers Carla Cabral, Sally Zito, Joe Allman, and Taj Uppal were charged with felony grand theft for rescuing Phoebe and Celia.The open rescue followed a months-long DxE investigation that found sick goats were denied adequate medical care, and dozens of dead mother and baby goats were regularly being dumped into an illegal dead pile on the property. Vera Dairy was cited by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board in 2021 for improperly disposing of deceased animals, and DxE's investigation revealed this environmental violation was continuing years later.Meyenberg continues to get away with criminal animal cruelty despite reports made to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and other local law enforcement, leading to no animal welfare enforcement actions.
