Ofrendas y Recuerdos: A Celebration of Life & Legacy
Celebrate the vibrant culture and remembrance of a ceremony steeped in Mexican tradition! Ofrendas y Recuerdos: A Celebration of Life & Legacy, which translates to “Offerings and Memories: A Celebration of Life & Legacy”, will bring the rich customs of honoring the departed to life through stunning ofrendas (altars), art, live performances, and hands-on experiences.
This two-part program will kick off on Monday, September 15th with a curated ofrenda in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, followed by a family-friendly, free event on October 25th in celebration of DÍa de los Muertos. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to engage in cultural traditions and learn about the significance of these heritage rituals. Interactive activities will provide deeper insights into the customs behind DÍa de Los Muertos, ensuring cultural authenticity and a lasting appreciation for this important celebration.
Passive Ofrenda Art Installation Display (Sept. 15 – Nov. 2):
The art installation created by Visionary Collective features marigolds, sugar skulls, and offerings that highlight themes of remembrance, heritage, and legacy.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration (Saturday, October 25 from 1 to 5 p.m.):
The celebration is open to the public and provides an opportunity for the Sacramento community to come together.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Local artists and cultural leaders will facilitate activities, creating an inclusive, multigenerational celebration.
INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS
Participants decorate sugar skulls to take home; sugar skull coloring masks will be available for younger children or those who prefer a quicker activity.
PERFORMANCE & BLESSING
Community elders will open with a Danza Azteca blessing and a brief introduction to the cultural significance of Día de los Muertos.
FEATURED ARTISTS
Estella Sanchez is a cultural strategist, artist, and community organizer based in Sacramento. She is the founder of Sol Collective, where her work bridges art, ancestral knowledge, and healing practices as tools for cultural preservation and liberation.
Jonathan Martinez is a Sacramento-based multimedia and tattoo artist whose work explores identity, culture, and nature. His art serves as a bridge between generations, preserving traditions while inviting new forms of self-discovery and community storytelling.
Both are members of Visionary Collective, a group of interdisciplinary artists committed to cultural preservation and collective healing.
Visionary Collective is a cultural and community-based arts collective of cultural bearers, artists, and healers with decades of experience producing arts and cultural events rooted in ancestral knowledge. We collaborate with a wide network of artists, elders, and educators to create accessible, meaningful activations that uplift traditions and inspire community connection.
