The first memorial was a candlelight vigil in November 1999 to honor Rita Hester, murdered in 1998. Since then, annual memorials have been observed around the world around November 20th.

PFLAG Sacramento, TransFamilies Sacramento and Trinity Cathedral are pleased to co-sponsor the 2025 Annual Candlelight Vigil in observance of the International Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 22.

This inclusive community memorial features guest speakers and is open to the Sacramento community and to people of all traditions. Admission is free.
