According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

In this workshop, we will explore being mindful while engaging in activities from two modalities: singing and creative expression working with various media including textiles. Included will be time for reflection, journaling, and discussion. In the course of our time together, we will ask these questions:

• What is on your mind and in your heart as you begin the New Year?
• How can you learn to engage your creative energy without the inner critic getting in the way?
• As you begin the New Year in these very challenging times, how can you bring a sense of equanimity or balance to your daily life?   

Throughout the workshop, we will engage body, mind and spirit to discover and practice skills and behaviors associated with the practice of mindfulness.

• Listening/Concentration/Focus
• Being/Staying in the present moment
• Letting go of judgment, one’s inner critic
• Risk-taking/Letting go of fear
• Trusting your Imagination/Creative Impulse
• Experiencing Joy
