There will even be some eerie music for Hallowe'en!About this EventMusical Mélange: Broke and BlueBroke and Blue came together when pianist Kathryn Le Gros and flutist Diane Berry first discovered their mutual love of the music of French jazz pianist, Claude Bolling (1930-2020). With two suites for flute and jazz piano and California Suite, as well as other single pieces, there is a rich choice of wonderful music available to them. Bolling’s fusion of classical and jazz elements in his work is a wonderful vehicle for these two classically trained, versatile musicians. Both are experienced performers, connected to many ensembles in and around Victoria, embracing a number of different genres and styles. This is the second of 8 concerts in this season's Musical Mélange series. To find information and tickets for the rest of the concerts go here: Musical Mélange Eventbrite Series of concerts. Details to save by buying a subscription are below. In the years since forming Broke and Blue, they have performed for jazz vespers in local churches, created videos for Vancouver Symphony’s Day of Music, performed at Hermann’s Jazz Club, Sooke Fine Arts Show, Unsworth Winery, Merridale Cidery, corporate functions, and live-streamed a concert for Augmented Trio Promotions. They are often joined by bassist Ryan Tandy and various local drummers to realize the full jazz sound. Their repertoire includes music by Moe Koffman, Dave Brubeck, Ian Clarke and some well-known jazz standards as well as classical music arranged for this jazz configuration.
