Silwerrand Schools’ Magical Christmas Lights Festival: A Heartfelt Tradition Not to Miss
Mark your calendars – from 2 to 6 December, Silwerrand Schools invite you to step into a world of wonder at their beloved Christmas Lights Festival, now shining bright in its 4th unforgettable year.
What began as a dream has now become one of Rustenburg’s most treasured holiday traditions. Four years ago, Charlene Schoeman, the passionate owner of Silwerrand Schools, turned her vision into reality by purchasing the entire light collection from the famous Danville Lighthouse in Pretoria – once known for its breathtaking festive displays.
When the owner of Danville Lighthouse was sadly diagnosed with cancer and needed to part with her lights, Charlene saw an opportunity to give them a second life – not just as decorations, but as a joyful gift to the community. That decision sparked what has now become an annual tradition filled with magic and meaning.
What makes this festival so special is the hands-on care and creativity behind it: every single light, decoration, and display is handmade, painted, and carefully set up by the dedicated teachers and staff of Silwerrand Schools. It’s a true labour of love, built by the people who care deeply about their community.
This year’s theme brings the enchantment of Disney to life! Get ready to be amazed by these magical light stations:
🌟 Frozen – Meet Anna and Elsa (and little girls can dress up like them!)
🕷️ Spiderman – A hit for every superhero fan
🌊 Under the Sea – Dive into an illuminated ocean adventure
🧚 Tinkerbell – She’ll be there in person to sprinkle her fairy dust
🃏 Alice in Wonderland – A whimsical world of fantasy and fun
🌹 Beauty and the Beast – A glowing tale as old as time
🎅 Santa’s Workshop – Where Christmas magic is made!
Of course, no festival is complete without delicious treats! Enjoy a variety of food stalls featuring boerewors rolls, pancakes, curry and rice, waffles, slush puppies, doughnuts, bubble tea, and more.
And for some festive shopping, browse through stalls selling jewellery, handbags, toys, custom tumblers, mugs, wallets, and other perfect holiday gifts.
Last year, the event welcomed an amazing 2,852 visitors, and this year, even more are expected – so don’t miss your chance to be part of the magic!
Even more meaningful, all proceeds go to the Rustenburg Children’s Home, helping to support and brighten the lives of local children in need.
🎄 Join us from 2 to 6 December at Silwerrand Schools for a celebration of lights, love, and community spirit. Come see how a dream turned into a festival that lights up Rustenburg – one handmade light at a time.
