In Q4 2025, the province’s official unemployment rate was 34.5%, while the national youth (15–34) unemployment rate was 43.8% for the same period (StatsSA). When expanded measures that include discouraged jobseekers are considered, North West faces an even larger challenge, with an expanded unemployment rate near 55%, underscoring widespread labour market discouragement among young people.

Call to Action: 
Provincial government, local municipalities, civil society, and the private sector must urgently scale up targeted youth employment programs, including skills training linked to local industries, expanded public works opportunities, and incentives for youth hiring, and commit to regular, transparent progress reporting to reduce youth unemployment and restore hope for the province’s young people.

The "Finding Work & Business Opportunities as a Young Unemployed Person" seminar national tour, run by Ilada Holdings, a Personal Development and Training company, is a response to the above-mentioned. The tour is expected to reach six provinces in 2026, namely Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Northwest, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng, and continue with the three other provinces in 2027.
