- **Event Description**: On September 16, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua C. Phipps (38) was tragically killed in the line of duty in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Deputy Phipps was assisting the Kentucky State Police in the pursuit of a suspect who had opened fire on a State Trooper before fleeing on foot.

During the search, while clearing a travel trailer, Deputy Phipps was ambushed and fatally shot by the suspect.

Deputy Phipps faithfully served the Russell County Sheriff’s Office for three years, following his prior service with the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Beyond the badge, Joshua was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a loyal friend. He owned 4 jeeps during his life, his love of the outdoors showed through with the top off and the freedom of a laid back country jeep ride. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and spending anytime outdoors was a good day.  He was always helping, always trying to lift someone up, to do his best and bring out the best in others.

Joshua was a man whose heart and character left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. Though his life was tragically cut short in the line of duty, his spirit, bravery, and enduring dedication continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. 

The 606 Jeepin Association of Kentucky is doing a ride to raise money for The Good Shepherd Scholarship Fund that was set up in Josh’s memory. It’s an easy ride, mostly blacktop/gravel but there are some creek crossings. The ride is mostly in Russell County but will have Adair & Pulaski counties included in small areas. We will meet at the Russell County Jaycees Fairgrounds on June 13, 2026 at 9am (cst). The ride fee will be $10 per Jeep which can be paid before the ride or the day of by cash, PayPal, Venmo or CashApp. Donations for more than $10 will gladly be accepted.
