L’Œuvre de Shigeru Ban (1957-), Pritzker Price en 2014, allie pleinement l’héritage de l’architecture traditionnelle japonaise et celui du Mouvement moderne initié il y a déjà un siècle. Mais le parcours singulier de cet architecte le conduit sur des chemins très variés, des abris temporaires destinés aux victimes de tremblement de terre à l’expérimentation de matériaux recyclables et bon marché : carton, bois, bambou. Connu notamment pour ses constructions en tubes de carton, il est aussi, en France, l’auteur du Centre Georges Pompidou de Metz (2009) et de la Seine Musicale de Paris (2017).
