“Santigaman” is a word first spoken in ritual by Cristeta Esguerra, a babaylan from Leyte. Through the research of historian Gloria Melencio, it was found to mean “sa ngalan ng kalipunan” or “in the name of the community”— a call to gather as one.
Inspired by this history, Rosa Mirasol, a visiting artist at Haboean and daughter of Gloria Melencio, has created an interactive clay installation using organic materials. Her work involves the audience to reflect on the multi-layered self which essentially is part of a bigger whole.
What’s happening:
• Talk by Prof. Gloria Melencio on the roots and meaning of Santigaman
• Clay autobiography workshop by artist Rosa Mirasol
