Axiom – Andrew Moreno Quartet
The first part of the evening is dedicated to Axiom, the new project by guitarist and composer Andrew Moreno. His music tells stories of migration, letting go, and reinvention – about falling in love with music all over again, every single day. His compositions strike a balance between thoughtful structures and the freedom of improvisation. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences—including visual art, Messiaen and Schönberg’s harmonic concepts.

This quartet has made its mark on stages such as Loft Köln, BIRD, De Doelen, Maassilo, and JZ Club Shanghai. Winning the Erasmus Jazz Prize 2024 and performing at North Sea Jazz confirmed their reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young ensembles.

NL-SWITCH Orchestra – Free Symphonic Jazz
After the break, the NL-SWITCH Orchestra begins in a small line-up and gradually expands into a tutti featuring all the musicians of the evening. Both Jonathan Ho and Andrew Moreno are regular members of the NL-SWITCH artistic pool and will merge into the orchestra and see if we also get inspired by Messiaen and Schönberg.

NL-SWITCH introduces a new current in free improvisation: Free Symphonic Jazz. Not protest music, but an invitation to boundless creativity and connection. The music flows like a symphony – sometimes impressionistic or minimalistic, sometimes spiritual or psychedelic – taking the audience on a surprising, organic journey.

Symphonic Playfulness
Previously, NL-SWITCH collaborated with Albert van Veenendaal (prepared piano) and Albrecht Maurer (violin/voice) in concerts full of creativity and joyful exploration. This time, Yanna Pelser and Bert den Hoed add a poetic and playful layer to the sound.
