- **Event Description**: The Mountsorrel And Rothley Community Heritage Centre is 10 years old and we've planned something very special to celebrate it with you!

Our restoration of Robert Stephenson's 1834 lift bridge is finally complete and we have a special guest on the Saturday to formally unveil the bridge and declare it open. they'll be demonstration lifts of the bridge throughtout both days and they'll also be demonstration runs of railway wagons passing over the wooden bridge. This is the only time this year that we plan to run trains over the bridge.

They'll also be two steam locomotives in action at the Heritage Centre on both days!

Our little tank engine "Roger" will by pulling passenger trains on the Quarry Bottom Railway (*) through out the weekend and our larger steam engine "Colin" will be giving cab rides (*) and driver a steam engine experiences (*) in the Heritage Centre's railway sidings!

No prior booking is necessary, just turn up and enjoy the fun!

Lift Bridge historical expert Graham Speechly will be with us, together with our Lift Bridge restoration manager Nigel Copson, on the Saturday, to answer any questions you may have about the history of the bridge and it's restoration.

Lift Bridge project partners the Leicestershire Industrial History Society with be with us with their history information stand and will also be selling copies of their new book about the history of the lift bridge and its importance.

The Midland Railway Society will also have their sales and information stand.
 
Site entrance is £4.50 adults and £2 children for this event, which includes access to the Adventure Trail with Digger Play, Den Building Tree House (New), Balance Beams, High Level Viewing Area, Wooden Train, Crazy Golf (*) and Garden Railway (*).
Down in the Quarry Bottom you’ll find the Butterfly Garden, Stone Masons’ Huts, Railway Museum, Quarry Heritage Building, Quarry Bottom Railway train rides (*), King Charles III Coronation Garden, Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Garden, Peace Garden, Botanical Garden, Robert Stephenson’s Lift Bridge and Museum, Narrow Gauge Railway Traverser, LMS wagon Museum, with its vintage train set.
Then there is the Discovery Trail, with Sensory Area, Wooden Xylophone, Bug Hunt, Wild Flower Meadow, Story Telling Dome, Hedge Hog Village, Stick Man, Picnic Area and Bird Feeding Stations.

(*) - Optional attractions with an additonal charge are the Quarry Bottom Railway Train rides £2 adults and £1 children, Crazy Golf £2.50 per person, per game, Garden Railway £1.50 per go to drive the little trains, locomotive cab rides £5, and steam engine driver experiences £10. Both locomotive cab rides and drive a steam engine experiences are for visitors aged 16 or over only.

Quarry Bottom Railway operates from 10:15am until 3:45pm, Locomitive cab rides and driver experiences operate from 10:15am until 3:30pm.
