Bladesmithing 101: Forge a Railroad Spike Knife

Step into the forge for a full-day, hands-on workshop where you'll create a fully functional knife from a real railroad spike—perfect for camping, display, or everyday use. No experience necessary!

In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn the foundational skills of bladesmithing while crafting your own custom knife. You’ll:

• Forge and shape a railroad spike into a finished knife
• Bevel and profile your blade
• Create an integral handle design
• Explore heat treating and finishing techniques

Beyond hands-on forging, your instructor will guide you through:

• Proper tool use and forge safety
• Selecting and working with materials
• Body mechanics and hammer control
• Design and function considerations
• Basic metallurgy and blade finishing

By the end of the day, you’ll walk away with:

• A completed railroad spike knife with integral handle
