to honor a former Coal Miner as King Coal, celebrating the legacy of the coal miners and families who built our community.

We are honored to announce our 2026 King Coal, Tom Willette!  Tom has been a long standing member of our community and has conducted his businesses, Willette's Towing, Willette's Shell Gas Station, and Willette's Heating, since 1960.  

Tom worked in the No. 3 Mine in the early 1950’s after he graduated from High School.  He worked underground and did a little bit of everything, whatever needed to be done.  He remembers the first time going down the trip, it was like the “Tunnel of Love”.  The trip or mantrip, was the car that carried the miners up and down the slope going into the depths of the underground mines.
