For millions of European students, studying abroad has become a natural part of university life. At the heart of this is Erasmus, one of the European Union’s most well-known and impactful programmes. 🌍

But where did Erasmus come from? Why was an EU programme for student mobility named after a Dutch scholar who lived more than 500 years ago? And how did a programme launched in 1987 grow into something that has shaped the lives of millions of Europeans?

📚 Erasmus of Rotterdam travelled across Europe to study, teach, exchange ideas, and engage with scholars beyond the borders of his own country. Centuries later, his name became associated with a programme built around many of the same ideas: education, mobility, cultural exchange, and connections across Europe.

On September 4th, we will explore the story of Erasmus, from the scholar behind the name to the development of the EU’s Erasmus programme and the role it plays in European university life today.

🌍 How has Erasmus changed the way Europeans study and travel?
🎓 What impact has student mobility had on European universities and cooperation across borders?
🇪🇺 And what role can programmes like Erasmus play in bringing Europeans closer together?

Along the way, there will be talks and presentations exploring Erasmus, European student mobility, and the relationship between the EU and our universities.

🥪 And because European exchange is about more than lectures and institutions, we will also be serving a free Danish smørrebrød dinner, giving Danish and international students a chance to meet, eat, and get to know each other.

🌍 The event will also mark the opening of this year’s International Rustrip, bringing together Danish and international students at the beginning of the new semester.

Whether you are an international student experiencing Denmark for the first time, a Danish student interested in studying abroad, or simply curious about Erasmus and the European Union, this event is for you! 🇪🇺
