Join us on Thursday, August 7th at 7:00 PM at the Rosenberg Civic Center for an engaging evening and step back in time with Sharon Menegaz, a dedicated volunteer with the Texas Archeological Society for over 25 years, as she explores the prehistoric eras of Texas. From the earliest Paleoindian hunters to the agricultural Caddo people, Sharon will provide an engaging overview of the cultural periods that shaped ancient Texas. Along the way, she’ll share personal stories and discoveries from archeological digs across the state, including notable sites like the Gault Site and historic Caddo villages. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply curious about the land beneath your feet, this program offers a unique glimpse into Texas’ deep past and the exciting world of archeology.
About our Presenter:
Sharon Menegaz is a retired educator with 25 years of teaching experience, including 11 years dedicated to teaching Texas History. She has been an active volunteer with the Texas Archeological Society (TAS) since 1999, participating in dozens of field schools, excavations, and archeological research projects across the state. Sharon currently serves as the TAS Regional Director for her area and is a member of TAS’s newly redesigned POEM Committee—focused on Public Outreach, Education, and Membership.
As part of her archeological volunteer work, Sharon has spent 10 years as an appointed member of the Texas Historical Commission’s Archeological Stewards Program, assisting with site preservation, education, and community engagement. She has worked on a wide variety of sites, from Paleoindian to Historic Period, including the renowned Gault Site and Caddo village excavations. With her combined background in education and hands-on archeology, Sharon brings a deep understanding of Texas’ prehistoric and historic heritage, along with engaging stories and insights drawn from more than two decades in the field.
Coastal Prairie Chapter programs are free and open to the public. A virtual option is available (see below). This program will be held in-person at the Rosenberg Civic Center, 3825 TX-36, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Please plan to arrive at our new time of 6:00 pm for social time and refreshments. The program starts at 7 pm.
