- **Event Description**: Periprosthetic Joint Infection Is the most common reason for revision total Joint arthroplasty. The debridement Is considered to be the most Important aspect In Infection surgery, yet often times it is gleaned over and more focus is placed on reconstruction techniques. We wish to highlight the critical and important steps of removal of infected tissue, foreign material and treatment of biofilm prior to reconstruction. 

The webinar will begin with a brief overview periprosthetic joint infection, and quickly dive into video based demonstrations on how to perform the opening synovectomy in two stage exchange or DAIR, how to address and resect sinus tracts, and how to effectively resect infected tissue in the posterior compartment of the knee.

Learning Objectives:

o Understand how to perform an adequate debridement for DAIR and two-stage revision for periprosthetic joint infection, highlighting the subtle nuances of the synovectomy, sinus tract debridement and including the debridement of the back of the knee
o Learn how to perform complete en bloc synovectomy for one stage revision, highlighting the nuances of identification of extensor mechanism, complete synovectomy without violating the joint on the lateral side, and ability to preserve collateral ligaments during resection, showing the capability to identify healthy tissue from diseased tissue
o Become familiar with several brief tips and tricks for implant and foreign body removal, including cementless 4 peg & keel tibial components, cemented stems and cones, and fully cemented stems
o Understand the efficacy of different irrigation solutions based on the literature, and effects of local and intraosseous antibiotic delivery
