January13, 2026 marks the start of this 13-Week Course.
The Lifestyle & Nutrition Course is a 13-week, evidence-based, disease prevention and reversal series that uses lifestyle medicine strategies to address the leading causes of illness in the U.S. and Douglas County. Utilizing food as medicine, new topics are covered each week, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and other chronic illnesses.
Thousands of people have participated in UC-VEG's Food as Medicine Program over 10 years and have seen positive results such as lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, normalized blood sugar level, significant weight loss, a decrease in dosage or even discontinuation or certain medications, improved mood and greater energy and vibrancy. Committed participants are invited to verify their progress through a pre and post blood lab. With over 50 medical providers referring their patients to the program, the value of utilizing food as medicine as a preventative measure and means to address the root causes of illness are being recognized as an effective and practical option.
Participants can attend the hybrid course either virtually, in-person at the Aviva Health center in Roseburg, Oregon or at satellite locations in Canyonville, Bandon and Grants Pass.
The program includes practical cooking instruction and samples along with simple recipes and handouts. You'll also learn strategies for managing stress through mindfulness, exercising, and habit change in an atmosphere that is socially supportive.
All are welcome. No one will be turned away.
The Lifestyle & Nutrition Course is currently free to attend.
Participants of the program have the option to consider becoming a Community Supporter by contributing to a sliding scale donation campaign to sustain and expand the program. For more information, visit
