On a clear day, extensive views stretch out from the Coast Range to the Cascades. You can either pay online in advance at: https://reservations.lanecounty.org/reservations/product.asp?CategoryID=1074462 or park on the road outside of the park. However, parking outside the park does present its own set of problems; we recommend you purchase a parking permit ahead of time if you know you are going to drive. Hike route: Loop hike, with a couple of side trips. The quick version of the route will consist of following Trail 2 to the summit, then visiting Swing Hill, and return via Trail 3. Difficulty level: Moderately strenuous Distance: Approximately 7 to 8 miles Pluses: It's not often we Roseburgians get to literally look down our noses at Eugene, but this is one of those times. Once you get done sneering at Eugene, you can soak in epic views of the farmlands surrounding the Coast Fork McKenzie River, extending all the way to the Cascades. Minuses: This park is popular and is close to Eugene. It's a busy place and not the place to experience solitude. For more information call or text Missy at 530-927-9572. On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building. Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking. If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver. Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
