- **Event Description**: Details: Mount June was once the site of a fire lookout from the 1920s to the 1960s in the Hardesty Mountain area. These days, hikers can take in views from the summit, which now only feature foundation pillars from the former lookout. The trek up to the summit is only a mile, so a side trip to Sawtooth Rock is in order, which includes a stroll through an open meadow along the way.

Hiking route: Beginning at the Mt June Trailhead, we’ll follow a ridgeline to Sawtooth Rock, our turnaround point. On the way back, we’ll make the short but steep climb to Mt June before returning to our vehicles.

Difficulty level: Challenging

Distance: 5.0 miles

Elevation range: 3700 – 4600 feet

Elevation gain: 1700 feet

Pluses: Wonderful southerly views from Mt June and Sawtooth Rock. Except for the steep uphill path to Mt June, the trail is fairly moderate.

Minuses: The steep uphill path to Mt June. The summertime wildflowers will have long dried up.

On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building.

Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking.
If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver.

Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
The club hikes every other Saturday, rain or shine. Hiking is free, everybody is welcome.
