In this class, you’ll learn to paint a unique mandala design on a 4-inch stone using dotting tools, guided by artist and educator Diana Magner. We’ll provide all the materials you need—including stones, handouts, paints, and dotting tools—and guide you through various techniques to help you create your own design. The goal is to get you comfortable with the technique, so you can go home and continue painting on your own. For those who may have previously taken a dotting class, advanced techniques will be shared to improve your painting skills.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Diana Magner grew up in Roseau County but has made Grand Rapids her home for the last 30 years. She taught elementary school, but retired from teaching four years ago. She now spends her time creating art and teaching both adult and student art classes. 

Diana started doing dot painting during Covid as a way to reduce stress. She was teaching a class of second graders from home and the anxiety was starting to build. Dot painting was a way to focus her mind on something other than the craziness around her. It became her therapy.

Four years ago, Diana started a business named after her very creative mother. "Donna's Daughter" participates in a variety of craft shows and art festivals across Northern Minnesota. Besides her dot painting, Diana creates a variety of art from mostly repurposed and recycled materials. Her work is for sale at the Plaid Walleye in Warroad and the Bead Gypsy in Roseau.
