I specialise in breathing life into ancient artistry through intimate, master-led workshops. My focus is on tracing the unbroken lineage of stone carving, from Arab-Norman-Byzantine local styles. This journey directly connects to the rich heritage of Sicily, where diverse cultures combined to create a unique artistic style. The five-day experience includes:
A Journey Through Time: We begin by exploring carving techniques, using local stone and tools inspired by traditional practices. Over the week, you will progress to understanding the sophisticated local styles, gaining a profound, chronological understanding of the craft's evolution. We'll use authentic white marble and local limestone, directly connecting you to the materials used in the region's great cathedrals.
Master-Led Hands-On Sculpture: You'll receive direct instruction from a globally recognised master sculptor, guiding you through the principles and practical application of these foundational art forms.
Profound Philosophical Grounding: Our practice is rooted in a unique blend of core philosophies, including Harmonic Proportion, Fóli, Baraka, Eudaimonia, Arete, Gestalt Laws, Musical Theory, and “The Song.” These principles, alongside an exploration of expanded human senses, will guide your creative decisions and every chisel stroke, fostering a connection that is both ancient and remarkably contemporary.
Curated Cultural Immersion: We will provide a deep historical and contextual understanding of Monreale and its architectural heritage. The week includes a visit to the magnificent Duomo di Monreale and its cloister, where you will study the intricately carved capitals and a synthesis of Norman, Arab, and Byzantine artistic traditions.
