Spinta dall’amore per la musica, la leggendaria band Fat Freddy’s Drop tornerà sul palco nel 2026 per festeggiare il ventunesimo anniversario del celeberrimo album Based On A True Story. Farà tappa in Italia il prossimo autunno per tre imperdibili date: mercoledì 30 settembre all’Alcatraz di Milano, giovedì 1° ottobre all’Atlantico di Roma e venerdì 2 ottobre all’Estragon Club di Bologna. I biglietti saranno in vendita su Ticketone dalle 10 di martedì 28 ottobre 2025.

Le cinquantuno date previste tra Australia, Aotearoa (Nuova Zelanda), Europa e Regno Unito saranno le prime dopo l’improvvisa scomparsa del membro fondatore Chris ‘MU’ Faiumu. La band si è trovata unita nella decisione di portare avanti questo tour pianificato da tempo. Il cantante Dallas Tamaira afferma: «Per noi è importante onorare le decisioni prese con MU, e suonare questo album dal vivo ne fa parte»

Based On A True Story è stato pubblicato in forma indipendente nel 2005, un album composto da dieci tracce di future funk, con sorprese, inganni e deviazioni imprevedibili. L’album è diventato quello con la permanenza più lunga in classifica nella storia di Aotearoa, con 111 settimane consecutive nella Top 40, vincendo otto New Zealand Music Awards e il premio ai Worldwide Music Awards di Gilles Peterson nel Regno Unito.

«Questo è stato il primo vero album in studio della band e il suo successo è stato il trampolino di lancio per quello che è diventato un incredibile viaggio insieme», spiega il sassofonista Scott Towers. «Vogliamo rendere omaggio alla musica, a MU e alla band che ha creato. E naturalmente, suonare per i fan che ci hanno sempre sostenuto in tutto il mondo»
