Looking for a hands-on way to give back to nature and our community? Rolla Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation, invites you to join us for a unique, interactive event as we launch our brand-new floating wetlands into Ber Juan Lake!

This is your chance to get your hands dirty (just a little!), help plant some native greenery, and watch the entire process of getting these incredible structures out onto the water.

🤔 What are Floating Wetlands & Why Do We Need Them?
Floating wetlands are small, artificial islands packed with native plants. They may look pretty on the surface, but underneath, they are doing some serious heavy lifting for our local environment!

Here are a few reasons we are so excited to introduce them to Ber Juan Lake:

Natural Water Purification: The roots of the plants grow directly into the water, absorbing excess nutrients (like phosphorus and nitrogen) that can cause algae blooms. This keeps our lake cleaner and clearer!

Instant Wildlife Habitats: Above water, they provide nesting spots and shelter for birds and pollinators. Below water, the root systems create a perfect nursery and feeding ground for fish.

Erosion Control: They help naturally absorb wave energy, protecting our shorelines from wearing away over time.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Who Can Join?
Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a passionate environmentalist, a curious neighbor, or a family looking for a fun afternoon activity, we would love your help. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting a little damp or muddy!
