- **Event Description**: Join us for a thoughtful and respectful conversation about the role of gender identity and sex in sports. Both sides will be represented.About this EventIn just a few weeks, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox on January 13, 2026. These cases will shape national precedent on sex-based sports categories and determine whether state laws protecting female athletics violate Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause. The outcomes will directly affect students, parents, coaches, schools, and communities across all 50 states. As the national conversation intensifies, it is more important than ever to create spaces where people can listen and speak without fear, without caricature, and without intimidation determining who is allowed to participate.Join us for a respectful and intellectually engaging dialogue on this important issue. We will begin with short speeches from both sides, followed by an opportunity for attendees to share their own perspectives if they wish. Our goal is not to “win” a debate but to foster understanding, honest inquiry, and healthy civic engagement. Note: This program is neither sponsored by nor affiliated with the Sonoma County Library. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events2/banners/41030b00-d633-11f0-9c00-df25eb59b249-rimg-w1200-h675-dc3577bc-gmir.jpg Agenda?: 02:00 PM - 02:10 PMOpening RemarksHost: Cynthia CravensInfo: Cynthia Cravens, former State Senate District 11 candidate, will open the event and establish our expectations for respect and civility.?: 02:10 PM - 02:40 PMSpeeches on Both SidesInfo: There will be 4 short speeches presenting both sides of the issue. ?: 02:40 PM - 03:10 PMQuestion and AnswerInfo: The audience will have a chance to ask the speakers questions.?: 03:10 PM - 04:00 PMSpeeches from the AudienceInfo: Audience members will be invited to share their thoughts, if they wish, with 3 minute speeches.

"description": "Freer Speech was founded in San Francisco in August 2023 in the wake of the Davis Library incident, where women’s First Amendment rights were compromised. The organization was created to ensure that difficult or controversial conversations can happen openly, safely, and respectfully.Freer Speech seeks to platform speakers and viewpoints that may be unpopular or contentious and are often shut down, particularly in libraries, colleges, and other community venues. Our mission reflects this commitment. Departing from the current climate of censorship and self-censorship, Freer Speech returns to the true spirit of free expression in America: that people should be able to voice ideas, even ones some may consider controversial or offensive, without being shouted down, threatened, or prevented from speaking. Writers and artists should not fear losing their livelihoods or personal safety because of their work. We believe the best response to speech we do not like is, and always has been, more speech. Freer Speech is a forum for programs and speakers that highlight censorship in our institutions, the policing of language from both left and right, and the importance of free expression in civic life."
