- **Event Description**: Music is a tool for social bonding and is powerful—perhaps even essential—for forming socially cohesive groups. Anyone who has been to a concert, church, Zumba class, etc. can attest to this phenomenon. Groups, villages, and tribes that are properly bonded enable humans to be successful, for we are really quite vulnerable as individuals. Music has a special ability to synch our consciousness together as one, and helps alleviate the illusion of separateness. Rhythmic sounds cause our brain waves to synchronize, and ultimately our vitals as well. Oxytocin is released, which is the chemical that bonds infants with mothers. We are clearly the musical ape, and are meant to use music to create healthy, connected groups and villages. 

This course is about harnessing the fundamental power of music and getting out of the way, so that it can do its work. Instruments will be provided and Students will be invited to play, hum, sing, draw, meditate, lay on the floor, dance, and anything else that does not involve talking. After finishing a completely non-verbal session of "free music”, we will explore the ideas that bubbled up—to write riffs, chord changes, and songs.

This workshop is for musicians of all levels. You are welcome to come and listen as well as participate. Free entry for all ticket holders to Goodnight Moonshine's November 9th performance at Shalin Liu.
